IT industry must target
The IT industry must make efforts to target "female talent", according to womenintechnology.co.uk.
In news that may interest people involved in resource management, Maggie Berry, director of the networking group and online job board, explains that the industry should encourage more women to take an interest in the sector.
She adds that steps must be taken to address the preconceptions that IT is a "man's world" and that the jobs are "geeky".
Ms Berry suggests that strong training and development programmes, as well as the development of more flexible working practices, will help to attract, develop and retain female talent "at all levels".
These may include "graduates entering IT to women returning after a career break whose skills are invaluable to the industry", she concludes.
In related news, figures obtained from the British Computer Society suggest that in 2004, women made up only 14 per cent of the organisation's membership.
