Regulatory compliance top priority for IT
Compliance with regulations, which includes the execution of access control, transaction monitoring and systems to prevent the loss of personal data, will be the top priority for IT professionals over the coming year, a survey by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (Isaca) has revealed.
Greg Grocholski, chair of Isaca's assurance committee and senior finance director at Dow Chemical Company, said: "The cost of losing or compromising the integrity of personally identifiable information is leading to a renewed focus on information security."
Enterprise-based management and IT governance were also areas of concern, while information security management and disaster recovery were the third and fourth most important issues.
Anthony Noble, member of the Isaca assurance committee and vice president of IT audit at Viacom, explained: "IT projects still lack alignment with business objectives at many organisations and, as a result, they are unable to realise business benefits."
Recent research by Disaster Recovery Solutions found that of those organisations that that do not have a business continuity plan, 43 per cent will never re-open and 80 per cent fail within 13 months. ![]()
