Beware of data warehouse bottleneck, says analysts
Enterprise data warehouses can be essential business intelligence tools but can equally prove troublesome bottlenecks for mission critical information, according to a new study.
Intelligent Enterprise reports that Forrester Research has produced a new dossier on the subject titled Really Urgent Analytics: The Sweet Spot for Real-Time Data Warehousing.
As part of this, Forrester analysts urge IT professionals to adapt data warehouses in line with real-time business requirements and even consider completely bypassing the resource.
Forrester believe that real-time is often a 'bolt-on' during data warehouses' design which means that the required continuous flow of information is never truly achieved.
Traditional data warehouses usually offer slow data delivery, although Forrester urges that it is possible to adapt these environments to cut down information delays to just a few seconds.
However, the report indicates that to achieve real-time data delivery, companies must be prepared for the complexity and cost of making the appropriate adaptations to the data warehouse environment. ![]()
