Disaster recovery is top storage challenge for IT execs

More than four out of five firms in a new survey have said that disaster recovery is their top challenge when it comes to storage.

The study, conducted by Storage Expo, also found that IT executives had significant concerns about ensuring data security for their businesses (82 per cent) as well as the management of increasing volumes of data (81 per cent), Computer Weekly reports.

In addition, centralising data access was a concern for 79 per cent of organisations, followed by how to store data with minimal cost (77 per cent).

On the other hand, making sure businesses comply with the latest data storage legislation and knowing what regulations to comply with was less of a concern to firms, with 68 per cent of organisations not worried.

Meanwhile, achieving interoperability across existing storage solutions was an issue for 60 per cent of organisations.

Recently, the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) said that a disaster recovery plan was essential to the survival of any businesses, regardless of its size.

Ian Fraser of the IRM said this was because when things go wrong "it is usually too late to make business continuity arrangements, or at best they will take longer and cost more, but all too often businesses do not survive if they haven’t prepared".
