SIEM delivers best-class results

Top performing companies use security information and event management (SIEM) solutions to achieve best-in-class results in security governance, risk management and compliance, industry experts have suggested.

Derek Brink, vice president and research fellow of IT security with the Aberdeen Group, explained that firms of all sizes are "compelled" to comply with industry and government legislation, industry standards and best practices, as well as internal policies related to information security.

These policies provide the "foundation" for the most effective security governance, risk management and compliance programmes, he said.

And while their capabilities are "still developing", Mr Brink said "there is clear evidence that companies with top performance are taking proactive steps to ensure that investments in security and compliance controls directly support the strategic objectives for the business".

Meanwhile, Sunil Bhargava, chief technology officer at Intellitactics, said that many organisations "are leveraging SIEM solutions to track, analyse, and manage how the requirements expressed by their policies are being satisfied".
