CIOs divided on IT budgets

IT executives are split three ways over their budgets for 2009, according to research by CIO Connect, which is to be published soon.

A survey of FTSE 250 CIO members, the networking organisation found that a third believed budgets would rise, a third believed they would fall, while the remainder felt budgets would remain constant next year, Computer Weekly reports.

Kevin White, content director at CIO Connect, said that the findings reflected the current economic outlook, but were nonetheless more positive that recent surveys which he believed gave a negative picture of spending on IT.

He told Computer Weekly: "The third-third-third split is rather more positive than previous data released over the last week or two."

Computing magazine reported last week that IT budgets are being reorganised to cut costs, as a result of the economic slowdown.

Nevertheless, earlier this month, analyst firm Gartner estimated that global spending on IT in 2008 would be up eight per cent from 2007.
