Q2 server sales up 6%
Worldwide revenue generated through server sales in the second quarter of the year are up 6.4 per cent, new figures from IDC reveal.
The research firm said that unit server shipments grew 11.1 per cent compared to the same period a year ago, while blade server revenue in the second quarter grew 40.8 per cent over 2007, InternetNews.com reports.
"We saw a real competitive pricing environment out there, and it looked like people are pushing stuff out the door," Jed Scaramella, senior research analyst for enterprise platforms at IDC, told the news provider.
"There are a couple of things behind that, we suspect it's mostly to get their footprint in the business to get pull through revenue like services."
IDC's figures mirror those of Gartner, which were published last week.
Jeffrey Hewitt, research vice president at Gartner, said: "The most significant driver in the quarter continued to be an upswing in x86 server replacements that started in the first quarter." ![]()
