IE 8 beta 2 launched

Microsoft has launched Internet Explorer 8 beta 2, and the upgraded browser is now available for download.

An inPrivate mode that allows the records of a web session to be kept private, improved tabbed browsing and a smarter address bar that uses previous history to predict the requested webpage are some of the new features.

Security-wise, the browser includes Acid2-compliance and support draft standards such as HTML 5 Draft DOM Storage standard and the Web API Working Group's Selectors API.

In his blog on Microsoft Talk, Brick O'Neill said: "Windows Internet Explorer 8 is the next version of the world's most popular browser that optimises developer and end-user experiences to provide a window to the Web of online services.

"Moreover, Internet Explorer 8 offers new features and functionality that enable customers to reach beyond the page in more secure, easier and faster ways than ever."

Meanwhile, competitor Mozilla extended its search deal with Google by another three years.
