Staff need 'time management training'

Employees should be given training on time management to improve workplace efficiency, one expert has suggested.

Ben Camm-Jones, news editor of Web-User, explained: "Training needs to be offered to staff so they can deal with email effectively, and perhaps bosses need to look at time-management training as well, to ensure that employees are aware of all the things they can do to be more effective in their jobs."

He added that employees and their managers should have a "proactive discussion" on the effects email has on productivity.

According to research from Expert Messaging, a communications consultancy, 77 per cent check their email with five minutes of turning their computer on.

Meanwhile, 39 per cent spend two hours a day on dealing with email, rather than working or filling in their online timesheets.

In addition, the research revealed that the average user sends 24 emails a day and receives 34.
