Cloud computing 'will transform IT billing'
The advent of cloud computing will fundamentally alter IT billing and the way companies pay for technology services, an expert has said.
Speaking at the Intellect Annual Regent Conference, David Keene of business IT specialist SAP, said that cloud application platforms will become more and more prevalent as long as they continue to manage and deliver solutions.
This will create a shift in IT billing and payment, with a move away from capital expenditure towards operating expense and paying on consumption, rather than by the number of computers using an application.
"What you are likely to see is the way we pay for IT is going to change," he said.
Mr Keene added that standardisation technology will also change the ways in which different IT services and platforms connect together, with companies becoming increasingly able to develop their own service architectures that incorporate internal services with external business management software.
The Intellect Annual Regent Conference was held in London.
