SaaS is 'very popular' in the UK

Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) is becoming very popular in the world's offices, with the UK named as one of the leading adopters of the technology, new research has revealed.

British companies are taking on SaaS services such as time billing software and project scheduling at a faster pace than in Germany, despite staying behind France in the popularity stakes, according to Gartner.

It was established that 71 per cent of French companies are using SaaS in one form or another, followed by 68 per cent of UK businesses and Germany, which falls far behind with only 45 per cent of businesses using such systems.

"We believe that North American vendors have enjoyed greater success in the UK because less effort is required to localise products and sales/marketing strategies," said Gartner analyst Chris Pang.

The expert asserted that international vendors may want to expand their operations in Germany and France as they present fruitful opportunities.

Employing 1,200 research analysts to help the operations of 60,000 clients, Gartner is currently the largest IT-based research group in the world.
