Servers 'are future of business software'
Servers will become the "lifeblood" of business and companies should invest in them sooner rather than later, an expert has emphasised.
Now, servers are used to host programs such as project management software, delivering the benefit of being much quicker than they are if hosted in-house, as well as being able to handle "peaks and troughs" in usage to a greater degree, Phil Turnbull of Hostway stated.
The expert emphasised that organisations around the country needed to be prepared for the shift to hosted small business management software as they are also a more cost-effective solution, due to the need for less storage and maintenance fees inside the building.
"Although this will usually mean switching to a pay-monthly model, companies will benefit from enterprise-level support and infrastructure, as well as potentially paying only for what they use," Mr Turnbull concluded.
The IT industry's move to cloud computing will continue to grow during 2009, with software-as-a-service thriving in the drive to cost-cutting, a recent report by the International Data Corporation asserted.
