Economic climate not dampening demand for IT outsourcing

Ongoing concerns over the state of the global economy have yet to impact upon business leaders' confidence in outsourcing, research has found.

With growing numbers of IT leaders looking to cut costs in the wake of the world credit crisis, a poll carried out by Vanson Bourne found that, of those who have outsourced some of their operations, a vast majority have no regrets.

Indeed, 80 per cent of those polled expressed confidence that their outsourcing deal is likely to deliver excellent value over the coming months.

What's more, 40 per cent revealed that they plan to outsource even more of their IT operations over the next 18 months, with just 22 per cent intending to cut back.

Commenting on the findings, Brian Stones, European vice president at Patni Computer Systems, which commissioned the study, stated: "It's not surprising to see that financial services companies in particular are embracing outsourcing as it helps them, along with other vertical sectors, to ensure the ability to maintain service delivery and plug the skills gap during these uncertain times."

Meanwhile, Compass Management Consulting recently warned against rushing into outsourcing deals, arguing that businesses should look to long-term savings rather than quick-fixes.
