No real change in outsourcing demands, claims Gartner

The popularity of outsourcing such technology as resource scheduling software has not waned since the beginning of the economic downturn, according to a new study.

Recent research by Gartner showed that the market has declined only very slightly, with the only real change being in the number of deals being secured by smaller businesses rising as many larger organisations make more stringent financial budgets and back away from the market.

Vice-president and analyst at Gartner Allie Young noted that the economic downturn has forced her organisation to look into secured contracts as a means of understanding the purchasing of small business management software.

She explained: "While economic forces can change priorities, the basic drivers of outsourcing remain intact.

"We have seen some softness in large deal signings, but no catastrophic decline."

Chris Holland, a manager at SafeNet, recently highlighted the importance of small business management software, noting that a failure to manage IT assets in the current climate could result in fines and negative PR for a company - both disastrous given the financial outlook.
