Aligning project management with company goals is 'very difficult'

An expert has highlighted the importance of having project management software in the workplace in a recent discussion regarding the management of corporate strategy.

Businesses trying to align their strategic and financial goals with project management are facing the "biggest challenge" in doing so, according to Scott Johnson, the chief executive officer and founder of AtTask.

He explained: "For a project and portfolio management solution to provide real value, it should include a formalised request process, demand management, and project prioritisation and selection that effectively bridges the strategic goals of executives and the implementation and execution deliverables of project teams."

His compatriot Mark Dallimore, the director of sales at the company, added that both structured and ad hoc strategies are needed if a company is to succeed, with flexibility in project management software required to match market conditions.

Outsourcing of such small business management software is becoming more popular, according to Deloitte, which specified in its report How Low Should You Go? that IT executives are beginning to prefer off-site solutions for technology.
