Data security 'necessary for CRM users'
Businesses using small business software such as customer relationship management (CRM) must ensure they have capable data security being used in their office, a new survey has warned.
A poll of 104 security professionals was taken by Websense, finding that most interviewees were concerned about the potential to lose clients following a high-profile data breach, with 81 per cent understanding that it would be potentially fatal to their organisation in terms of custom.
Reduced share prices are the second-largest worry, with the risk of corporate takeover and bankruptcy also causing agitation - though all three fall far behind the worries surrounding a customer walk-out.
Technical director at Websense Mark Murtagh said that CRM and other small business software users must make sure they do not face the prospect of harsh penalties for not having security measures in place.
"By taking active steps like using a data loss prevention solution to trace inbound as well as outbound data leaks, and having visibility of where important and valuable data sits, companies greatly reduce the risk of becoming a statistic," he concluded.
The e-Crime Congress was the event where the information was taken down, with attendees discussing the latest developments in the world of IT security.
