SaaS is popular for a 'multitude of reasons'

More businesses are looking away from the standard shrink-wrapped software packages in favour of adopting pay-as-you-go technology due to the better features available, an outsourcing expert said.

In an interview with Bizcommunity, founder of Liquid Thought Business Solutions of South Africa Roger Strain explained that hardware costs and software licences are largely forgotten about should a company look to off-site solutions like employee scheduling software.

By paying to use only what is needed, many businesses are able to upscale their commitment with greater ease, such as when more computers are added to a server, he noted.

Staff are also not needed to take care of any software upgrades or issues as this is done automatically by vendors, he added, while extra money is also saved from not having to buy patches or more.

Melanie Posey, an industry analyst with IDC working alongside Vanson Bourne, said that companies should keep a good relationship with their software provider as their guidance and support can come in quite useful.
