Innovation 'found in cloud computing'

Technological boundaries are being broken by the increasing popularity of outsourced computer programs such as resource scheduling, it has been claimed.

In a piece for the CMS Developer's Journal, Greg Ness said that virtualised environments such as those hosting programs like customer relationship management (CRM) are being increasingly adopted by bigger businesses as many of them have seen the benefits they bring to smaller firms.

One major selling point for such organisations is how cloud computing is able to consolidate millions of servers from across the globe, in turn cutting down on a large amount of management and electricity costs usually spent on in-house systems.

Even though this means that information is shared more efficiently and quickly, Mr Ness also said that security must be tightened on these systems, otherwise a company could be conversely losing the money they wished to save by adopting the likes of resource scheduling.

Forrester Research analyst Chenxi Wang also warned of this danger this month, explaining that many businesses are prone to making the leap into the virtual environment without considering the safety of sensitive documents and information.
