Virtualised software may 'prove difficult' for unprepared managers
IT managers need to be aware of the complications small business management software may bring, as they may become overpowered by the volume of demands otherwise, it was stressed.
Giorgio Nebuloni, a research analyst at IDC, emphasised that while many companies may understandably want to embrace the technology, they ought to establish a strong bond with their vendor as outsourcing novices can be easily caught out during implementation.
He explained: "Being so quick and straightforward, the deployment of virtual machines (VMs) can generate sprawling environments, where IT managers lose visibility on the amount of VMs and on their actual utilisation."
Further research from IDC found that the number of server systems with a hosted platform had increased by 26.6 per cent during last year, highlighting the importance of servers in modern IT and their role in sustaining business management software's boom.
Founder of technology firm GQuotient S Madhavan recently echoed these comments in the Hindu, stating that pay-per-use software delivers maximum IT efficiency through its cost-cutting abilities.
