'Opportunities galore' presented by outsurcing

Because it can lay the foundations for a number of bigger technological initiatives, the use of software-as-a-service (SaaS) such as project management is becoming popular, it is believed.

Group manager of channel services at HoundDog Technology Mike Byrne told Business Solutions that a number of companies are now looking to the near future when making a major decision regarding the adoption of feature-rich applications.

He explained: "The move is linked to both the economic downturn and the increasing awareness of climate change as a major issue.
"We are seeing more organisations looking to green computing and, therefore, more efficient use of IT resources and power through virtualised environments."

Mr Byrne added that with many already tied to a complex IT infrastructure in-house, any more technology on existing servers is a huge burden and as such, virtualised environments for software are welcomed by many with open arms.

David Wilson of Elearnity said this month that SaaS is a good way to fight the recession, adding that small business management software such as project management is able to improve base standards yet costs very little.
