Recession 'demands SaaS to be used'

Outsourcing companies must be considered by high street firms and other businesses which want to cut costs, an expert in the industry has said.

Speaking to Zawya.com, managing director of Media Solutions Altaf Alimohamed explained that software-as-a-service (SaaS) is becoming the more popular way to use technology such as project management software as it requires very little money to establish.

"The SaaS infrastructure can be assembled swiftly and it eliminates the need for upfront investment in IT infrastructure. However, what is also very appealing to businesses is that we use a monthly billing model based on actual consumption," he continued.

Applications are maintained consistently by vendors, Mr Alimohamed added, meaning upgrades and other investment is not needed to get the latest version, just a subscription.

David Wilson of analyst firm Elearnity said last week that SaaS is a great system to adopt should a company need to make both long and short-term cuts in expenditure, adding that the software provides scalability and flexibility in the workplace.
