Online shopping 'hits new heights'
Outsourced technology may help companies to take advantage of the online shopping scene, which is one of the few retail sectors to continue growing in the face of the current economic downturn, a new survey points out.
IMRG Capgemini's e-Retail Sales Index found that despite the widely-publicised recession, internet shopping is up 14 per cent on last year's figures, suggesting that businesses which use project management software could co-ordinate their business around this common goal of converting online sales.
The average online basket rose from £121.69 in April 2008 to £131.76 last month, highlighting what customer relationship management could also do for sustained growth of a business along with the sector.
Tina Spooner, the director of information at IMRG, said that UK consumers have spent £200 billion on the internet since 2000.
"Internet shopping is clearly the bright spot in the UK retail sector but this industry is still young and has great potential for further growth," she added.
IMRG prides itself on representing companies which follow criteria including honesty, decency, truthfulness and fairness with their customers.
