BA consider resource planning implications of losses
British Airways (BA) is set to make changes to its resource planning after it posted operating losses of £220 million in the 12 months to March 31st 2009.
The airline's chief executive Willie Walsh will work for a month without pay in a bid to reduce outgoings, but has admitted that the company will have to do more to respond effectively to the current crisis.
He said: "The prolonged nature of the global downturn makes this the harshest trading environment we have ever faced.
"It is vital, therefore, that we remain absolutely committed to our plans to establish British Airways as a high-performing, market-focused, global premium airline."
He added that the airline will "focus on the immediate situation by reducing costs".
BA's poor performance during the recession has not been reflected across the rest of the industry however, with competitors Virgin Atlantic announcing pre-tax profits of £68.4 million.
