Firms warned over mobile device security

Mobile devices used by employees run the risk of revealing important and confidential information, such as project scheduling, according to CRM magazine senior editor Marshall Lager.

Mr Lager claimed that one of the most important areas businesses and employees need to be wary of is exposure of login details and passwords.

His comments follow the publication of research by Credant Technologies published on May 19th, which revealed that 44 per cent of respondents admitted holding work documents on their mobile devices.

The research also discovered that more than half (54 per cent) of those devices were not secured with appropriate encryption data to safeguard confidential information, such as that held on resource management software.

Mr Lager explained: "The most important security practices still rest with individuals not exposing their logins and passwords via social engineering.

"Encryption doesn't prevent stupidity."
