Businesses introducing 'new resource planning'
More companies are embracing flexible working, research based on the responses of 500 businesses and 4,500 employees by YouGov for Orange shows.
More than a quarter (29 per cent) of Welsh employees take up the offer of flexible working, compared to only one in four (25 per cent) in the south of England and 22 per cent in Scotland.
Businesses are also beginning to appreciate the benefit of incorporating flexible working into their resource planning, with nearly three quarters (72 per cent) indicating that they believe it boosts company morale.
More than half (53 per cent) agreed that it improves productivity.
Paul Tollet, Orange vice-president of business, explained: "Flexible working doesn't have to involve significant financial investment from business - just a clear policy to ensure it is offered fairly and a willingness to provide employees with the tools they need.
"The cost of mobile solutions is decreasing, so there's no reason for businesses to delay implementing flexible working practices and technology."
The research comes after property consultancy GVA Grimley warned that many companies will need to rethink their use of office space during the recession.
