"What you see is what you get" with outsourced software

Outsourcing a company's programs such as time billing software is easier to understand as with such offerings, "what you see is what you get", it has been emphasised.

Joe Ruck, writing for Cloud Computing Magazine, said that people are able to truly weigh up whether or not such a system is suited to them because there is no difference between what is demonstrated and what is finally available after the contract is signed.

He explained: "There is no need for a polished or customized demo, merely an actual demonstration of the functionality as it exists today. There is no special customer implementation, just a provisioning of individual users."

Furthermore, in-house systems rarely see upgrades in terms of their adaptation in offices, Mr Ruck said.

He noted that this is because there is usually very little feedback to the vendor as they are not involved in the process of installing it, with a company's IT manager doing the work on their behalf.

The popularity of outsourced software in the current climate is undeniable and there are very few situations in which a company will not have a good reason to sign up to such a system, according to Getronics managing director Dave Baldwin, who made his comments this week.
