Home workers are 'more productive'

Businesses looking at ways to enhance the performance of employees in their firm ought to look towards adopting hosted software such as resource scheduling, according to an expert.

Nigel Hawthorn, the vice-president of EMEA marketing at Blue Coat Systems, explained that he himself was currently working from home and was enabled by business management software which is hosted via cloud computing.

He explained that many bosses saw the prospect of adopting virtualised software as one which could potentially negatively impact on worker performance, though he believes the exact opposite.

Mr Hawthorn continued: "I find I work longer hours and achieve more by working from home, where we tend to start earlier, finish later and are available for more of the working day."

According to a poll by the Chartered Management Institute and the Cabinet Office carried out in March, 52 per cent of respondents questioned revealed their organisation had plans in place to cope with business disruption.
