'Better understanding needed' for cloud computing
Cloud computing services need to be promoted more effectively if companies are going to adopt them, according to an expert.
A recent survey by Version One found that 67 per cent of senior finance professionals simply do not know what cloud computing is.
Julian Buck, the general manager of Version One, explained that despite the hype of the services provided, such as project management and resource scheduling, research reveals that many financial experts still do not even know what the term refers to.
He explained that in the current financial climate, organisations can benefit from cloud computing and can "deliver quality applications at low cost".
Mr Buck concluded: "However, until the confusion surrounding the true meaning of cloud computing is clarified and its potential benefits are clearly defined, few organisations are going to adopt it any time soon."
Last week, it was revealed that the car manufacturer Lexus is adopting customer relationship management - something delivered through cloud computing - across its branches in North America to better suit the needs of the customer.
