Hosted software is 'biggest thing to happen to IT' since internet
Software-as-a-service (SaaS) is becoming so ground-breaking that it could be considered to be the biggest thing to happen to IT since the internet, it has been asserted.
Mark Seemann, the product strategy and development director at Genesis Communications, said that SaaS such as project management software is able to provide immediate reduced costs from capital expenditure and allows employees to maintain this.
He continued: "SaaS also decouples the employees from the head office IT but still allows for central control, so the employees can use the IT services securely anywhere in the world where there is an internet connection."
Mr Seemann also stated that SaaS is able to provide an inherent data recovery system due to the hosted nature of such things, meaning that any information on the project management schedule can be regained should it be lost.
According to European Outsourcing and Services Survey Reveals Client Organisation Priorities for 2009 by Gartner, it was found that 36 per cent of organisations are in the initial stage of their next outsourcing endeavour - a rise of ten per cent on 2008 figures.
