SaaS grows worldwide, despite downturn

A new report has found that despite major recessionary trends in the Far East, a number of countries are still adopting software-as-a-service (SaaS) in droves.

The latest IDC report found that 31 per cent of the overall SaaS market will be dominated by customer relationship management, while human management programs such as time billing and online timesheets will become more popular.

Commenting on the results, Sheila Lam, a senior market analyst of IDC's Asia/Pacific enterprise applications research division, said that companies in the region are keen to use the SaaS model as it helps them manage their budget constraints.

She added: "Enterprises are considering to shift the hardware and software maintenance expenses towards SaaS, which appears to be a cost-efficient alternative by merging the license, hosting and management fees into a single subscription fee"

IDC is a leading provider of market intelligence and employs well over 1,000 analysts across the globe in over 110 countries.
