Recession sees 'growth in flexible working'
Flexible working and other resource planning concessions during the recession are changing the way businesses operate, it has been claimed.
Traditional office-based work models are being scrapped in favour of flexible working, according to Mark Dixon, chief executive of virtual office firm Regus.
Online project management and other responsibilities are increasingly being carried out remotely, he told eWeek Europe.
Mr Dixon explained: "With unemployment on the rise, we're also seeing no end of new customers using our services that are starting their own businesses.
"Again, flexible working facilities and programmes will mean they can have lower initial running costs."
He added that such alternatives are also environmentally friendly as "it removes the need for commuting, owning office space and all the cooling, security and other capital costs".
It comes after chairman of the Recruitment Society Steve Huxham warned that graduates will need to be more flexible when searching for jobs during the recession.
