Manager holidays 'stifled' by workload
Business manager resource planning is being stretched, according to recent research by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).
A fifth (20 per cent) of managers said that excessive workloads have prevented them from booking off holiday this summer.
Meanwhile, nearly three-quarters (72 per cent) admit that they get worried about work, clients or deadlines while they are away on holiday.
CMI chief executive Ruth Spellman explained that concern over their heavy workload is understandable.
She said: "We hope that our Out of Office campaign, combined with an amnesty and July 15th deadline to book some leave, will help managers turn their attention to planning a break.
"The well-being and resilience of our managers will be very important to ensure we are best placed to take full advantage of the economic up-turn when it comes."
Meanwhile, recent research by the Association of Graduate Recruiters found that less than three in five graduates are satisfied with their prospects for career progression in their role, with one in three believing management stifles innovation.
