Firms 'must assess' small business software suitability
Customers need to be consulted to establish the suitability of small business software such as customer relationship management, it has been claimed.
Technology editor at online resource centre MyCustomer.com Stuart Lauchlan explained that speaking to customers is "the only way" to understand whether these products are of use.
Spending on enterprise resource planning applications is expected to be impacted by the economic downturn, research by market intelligence firm IDC indicates.
A fifth of respondents to the firm's survey, published in April, indicated that resource planning spending will be much lower this year than in 2008.
Mr Lauchlan explained: "There are offline user groups, online communities such as MyCustomer.com, which offer interaction with other users and independent comment and case studies."
He also suggested that businesses take advantage of analyst firms that specialise in return on investment and other deployment information.
