Flexible working 'empowers employees'

A recent conference has highlighted the importance of technology which can be used to make flexible working easier for employees.

The round table debate was established by BT Conferencing, with delegates discussing the future of employment and how flexible working may "empower" staff and give them more choice in their day-to-day life, HR Magazine reported.

Online timesheets and other small business management software may easily facilitate a change such as this, with attendees noting that flexible working is a situation which must be discussed in every workplace.

However, it is not without its problems, according to Alan Warner, lead officer for communications at the Public Sector People Managers Association.

He said: "Businesses are moving towards more flexible working practices and more virtual workplaces.

"But young people coming into an organisation will want to impress and could end up working too hard. There needs to be a measure in order to have the necessary balance."
