NI consults over flexible working extension
Employee scheduling software may be accessed by a greater number of employees in Northern Ireland if new proposals gain approval.
Northern Ireland Executive ministers have launched a new consultation document to consider whether flexible working arrangements for parents should be extended.
Under Great Britain law, parents' right to request flexible working was extended to cover parents with children aged 16 and under.
The proposals could see Northern Ireland extending its flexible working to include parents with a child under six, a disabled child under 18 and if they have caring responsibilities for another adult.
Ministers' proposals also include the right to request time away from work to undertake training.
Northern Ireland employment minister Sir Reg Empey said: "Following the recent extension of the law in Great Britain, it is appropriate to ask whether we in Northern Ireland should follow suit, or whether an alternative approach would be better suited to our local needs."
DirectGov outlines a number of flexible working options, including flexi-time, part-time, compressed hours and job sharing.
