US Army uses IT outsourcing to measure emissions
In a bid to reduce its gas emissions and cut costs spent on traditionally more expensive in-house technology, the US Army has announced its intention to adopt IT outsourcing services, it has been reported.
According to InformationWeek, a trial which began in earnest at Fort Carson in Colorado four years ago has now developed into an eight-location project, with the Army making its thoughts known about the future of business management software in future years.
Tad Davis, the deputy assistant secretary of the Army for environment, safety and occupational health at the US Army, said that more standardisation is needed - something project management and such systems may provide.
He continued: "As we begin to understand and appreciate the benefits of this information technology, we can calculate our greenhouse gas emissions and ultimately our carbon boot print.
"I want something we can audit later on, something that's not just a back of an envelope calculation."
Earlier this month, Government Technology revealed that IT staff in the US local authority in Tacoma are using project management software to serve citizens with more responsiveness.
