Flexible working 'really boosts business'

Businesses in the UK could save themselves up to £31.7 billion by allowing workers to have a little more freedom through a flexible working initiative, it has been stated.

The report, carried out by Orange, found that if businesses became more savvy with their flexible working offerings - perhaps by implementing time billing software and online timesheets - an organisation could improve their bottom line and the health of their workforce.

Robert Ainger, the director of corporate marketing for Orange UK, said of the study: "This research reveals that far from being a financial barrier for business, flexible working actually presents a significant opportunity for businesses to save money and improve employee morale."

He added that by setting up a network capable of supporting an employee as they work at home, particularly by giving them something like business management software, a better culture will develop in the workplace.

According to Fresh Business Thinking last week, flexible working needs a company to be committed to the cause through technologies to support the initiative, otherwise it will likely struggle to get off the ground in light of staff expectations of good support.
