Online shopping grows, highlights profitability
Online sales markedly grew this month, highlighting the continued lucrative environment online.
According to the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index, online sales rose by 15.7 per cent on June figures, resulting in £4.2 billion being spent through the internet during July.
While sales of alcohol declined, clothing and electrical sales shot up, highlighting new techniques being adopted by organisations across the UK.
Tina Spooner, the director of information at IMRG, highlighted how certain technologies in the business management software arena, such as customer relationship management, could really help organisations deal with this increased demand.
She said: "It is evident that online merchants are becoming more sophisticated in their marketing efforts and email communications to their customers, the result of which can be seen in higher conversion rates, particularly in the clothing sector."
PayPal general manager Cameron McLean responded to the poll upon its release, noting that men spend much more than women on the web, with average online spend being £2,602 for men compared to £1,930 for women over the last six months.
