SaaS 'helps save money'
The need to drive down costs is making software-as-a-service (SaaS) much more popular, it is said.
Hubert Wentzel, the divisional director at EOH Consulting, asserted to IT Web that companies in the current climate are looking to loosen the purse strings and this is something that SaaS can deliver.
Higher functionality and a lower total cost of ownership are also demanded, highlighting the benefits of investing in off-site programs such as online timesheets.
Mr Wentzel continued: "Without an efficient infrastructure and seamless connectivity, none of these targets can be realised, and this is why businesses are increasingly looking towards SaaS, which allows them to procure a best-in-class computer environment that is more efficient and less expensive than creating their own."
He added that such things as resource scheduling software allow organisations to focus on the necessary technology and business issues that are needed for full success.
SaaS also has the benefit of reducing carbon emissions by moving software out of the building and removing the need for datacentres, according to Jean-Paul Desmarais, the enterprise marketing manager of the Imaging and Printing Group at HP Canada in an interview with itbusiness.ca.
