Multi-tasking can be 'remarkably stressful'

A number of businesses are putting their employees in potential danger to their health if they force multi-tasking onto them a little too much, according to a new study.

Stanford University researchers discovered that diverse streams of electronically-mediated information can put a strain on any workforce should it not be managed properly.

Justin Cooke, the chairman of the British Interactive Media Association, explained that the large amount of technology now used in workplaces can be ludicrous and can overpower an individual.

This could, in effect, be managed by one centralised solution that encompasses multi-functionality under one umbrella, such as small business management software.

Mr Cooke also explained another way to strike a good balance: "Creating spaces that minimise distractions and the creation of quiet areas where employees can focus on one job at hand are all simple and highly effective measures for ensuring we can get the balance between multi-tasking and getting things done absolutely right."
