Outsourcing 'must overcome avoidable barriers'
Outsourcing deals with providers of such things as time billing software can often be more complex to build and manage than first thought and must be carefully monitored, Gartner explained.
Furthermore, many organisations will set their expected outcomes too high and thus may feel they are being short-changed on something which gradually gains momentum.
Finally, Gartner asserted that outsourcing needs to evolve with the times and demands of the company, though this can often be down to an organisation not making their business plan clear to their provider of business management software.
Frank Ridder, the research director at Gartner, said: "Organisations that excel in sourcing have seamlessly integrated all providers, aligned all parties behind one goal, developed an agile sourcing environment and achieved business impact through targeted IT spending."
He added that others who lack such competencies have more chance of experiencing inefficiencies caused by idle resources, unnecessary processes, misalignment, overloaded computers or a lack of focus.
