Survival during recession 'could require flexible working'

Time billing software and online timesheets may be a great way to start a flexible working initiative - something a recent poll has highlighted to be a popular idea among workers in the recession.

Personnel Today revealed that two-thirds of employees in a recent Orange survey are willing to take a pay cut, work fewer hours or even work unpaid hours to combat the current economic climate for their company, though flexible working was particularly popular with many respondents.

Orange interviewed companies with over 1,000 employees including Honda, Nissan, Jaguar Land Rover and KPMG, which have all made adjustments to their workforce in such a way, perhaps embracing business management software to make it work.

A further 71 per cent of respondents to the poll also admitted their pride in working for their organisation.

It is a statutory right for disabled people, parents, guardians or carers to be able to request flexible working from their employer, with the government promoting the method of employment for such groups.
