Gartner: Clients looking to hosted security
It seems that businesses are seeing a lot of bonuses in software-as-a-service (SaaS) as a delivery model, meaning that many are even considering security options through the delivery method.
Such is the opinion of Arabella Hallawell, an analyst with Gartner, who asserted to InternetNews.com that such initiatives are more an issue of trust than anything else.
The expert explained: "Gartner clients are showing increased inclination toward deploying security SaaS solutions in threat and vulnerability-focused markets where up-to-date protection and expertise is paramount.
"Security-as-a-service also offers the potential for lower-cost delivery of security controls and functions with faster implementation cycles."
Her views are backed by Gartner predictions that the security-as-a-service market topped sales of $820 million (£493 million) in 2008 alone, up from $643 million (£386 million) in 2007.
The organisation added that it will continue to grow at a compound annual rate of over 30 per cent for the next three years, perhaps changing the fortunes of off-the-shelf releases for security.
Based in Connecticut, Gartner's last year of trading saw it take $1.3 billion (£782 million) in revenue.
