Hosted services seen as 'secure and efficient'

The likes of project management software and online timesheets are much more popular with firms looking for a secure and cheap way to look after their business' direction, it is believed.

Speaking to What PC? in a special focus on software-as-a-service (SaaS), senior analyst with Forrester Liz Herbert said the popularity of SaaS adoption is running alongside a shift in the types of applications being delivered through the system.

She explained that until recently, organisations were only comfortable with low-level applications, though they are increasingly looking at the model for the governance of more "mission-critical" assets.

Ms Herbert continued: "As companies increase their usage of SaaS applications and deploy them for more mission-critical functions, they must be more prudent about their contracts with providers.

"Sourcing departments should take the initiative to help with best practices for negotiating the growing numbers of SaaS contracts"

However, managing partner of Grosvenor Consultancy Services LLP Chris Tiernan recently explained to info4security that projects with outsourcers of IT must prioritise return-on-investment by maximising functionality as opposed to making money back quickly, as the software is too useful to be underfunded.
