SaaS software proves to be winner with council
A council in the south of England has announced that it has turned to software-as-a-service (SaaS) as its preferred method of technology delivery.
In an interview with ComputerWeekly.com, Richard Dawson, the IT services manager for Bracknell Forest Council, explained that the local authority was faced with nearly 100 new controls needed to be met to achieve compliance in a matter of months.
He asserted that one of the biggest challenges to come up against was finding a cost-effective method of securing data on portable computers that could be rolled out as soon as possible.
Commenting on the delivery style associated with time billing software and online timesheets, Mr Dawson said: "The SaaS model means that no hardware investment or maintenance is required and the system can be rolled out quickly and scaled up as required."
This summer, US government officials in Tacoma, Washington also adopted an IT-on-demand system in order to make seemingly arbitrary decisions much deeper and easier to approach, using a form of customer relationship management to oversee projects, Government Technology reported.
