SaaS is 'more functional and usable' than on-premise operations

Many businesses question whether or not on-premise operations are more functional and usable than virtualised offerings, yet one expert believes it is certainly the latter.

Saideep Raj, an expert in software-as-a-service (SaaS), told ComputerworldUK that in terms of implementation, the likes of project management software and resource scheduling software win "hands down" to both build and test when compared to out-of-the-box offerings.

In terms of usability, Mr Raj said that on-premise systems tend to be subjective in feedback to the application vendor.

He continued: "However, for SaaS applications, usability feedback is real-time and based on actual key-strokes - these vendors know exactly which functions are intuitive and which ones users are struggling with."

Mr Raj added that it is this unique ability with SaaS which "becomes relevant and important with a critical mass of users".

Last month, the Royal London Society for the Blind replaced its legacy software with customer relationship management as its functionality was much more flexible and centred around its needs.
