Brain drain 'may hit IT sector'

Businesses embracing the likes of project management software must continue to provide their employees with incentives, following a recent report on 'brain drain' - when workers are pushed out due to a lack of opportunities.

According to the IT Job Board this week, 76 per cent of those surveyed believe the UK IT sector will suffer from brain drain, while 28 per cent said it was likely to be contract rate reductions and another 27 per cent summarised the possible trend as a concern over long-term career prospects.

This could impact on the quality of person using project management software and other hosted services, underlining that businesses need to do more to hold onto better staff.

Adam Stokes, the operations manager at the IT Job Board, said of the results: "Since the dotcom bubble burst, the majority of IT departments have proved how going online can reduce costs and increase value, and management has witnessed this happening."

He added that with IT being mostly done in English, people from the UK are able to move abroad for opportunities.
