Tories would 'cut broadband tax'
The threat of broadband tax which businesses may be facing would be cut completely if the Conservative Party got into power at the next general election.
According to the shadow culture secretary Jeremy Hunt during an interview with the Financial Times, the Tories would scrap the proposed 50p-a-month levy which companies using business management software, among others, will have to pay.
The Labour government's justification for the cost is to help it fund its Digital Britain aspirations, rolling out super-fast broadband across the country to that could improve the speeds of project management software and other hosted services.
Mr Hunt's announcement adds to the desire for the Tories to end controversial IT and projects, such as ID cards and the BBC-only licence fee.
The Digital Britain project is currently being watched over by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, following the publication of recommendations on June 16th.
