Best practice 'must be observed' with SaaS

In order to get the most out of business management software, an organisation must ensure they are observing best practices when they install the systems in the workplace, an expert has asserted.

According to Gary Hamilton of the IDG News Service, it is always quite challenging in the constantly-moving worlds of business and IT to get a real hook on managing such environments.

Some of the pitfalls that many companies fall into include the situation of business supporting hosted software but not an IT department, or that software administrators are unfamiliar with configuration and release management practices.

Furthermore, Mr Hamilton warned that many resource scheduling or project management software tools are still maturing, meaning sometimes the deployment requires both manual and automated steps to be fulfilled.

This week, Gartner's Top 10 Strategic Technologies for 2010 report revealed that applications held via cloud computing will be one of the biggest investments made by companies next year.
