Remote working 'useful' for global organisations

Embracing cloud computing and allowing employees to work remotely can help a global business co-ordinate its teams, it has been claimed.

Resource management software and employee scheduling software can help businesses to manage staff and may even improve motivation, according to IBM.

Speaking to People Management magazine, senior managing consultant at IBM Alison Gregory explained that using remote working is about "having the right people in the right place at the right time".

She added: "Flexible working often means we need to work slightly differently in teams because we are a global business.

"For example, colleagues could take part in a conference call at 22:00 (local time) because it's across different time zones but then trade this time for a later start the next day."

Some 60 per cent of IBM's UK employees are currently eligible to work from home, with 73 per cent of managers responsible for remote employees.
